The prime theological point of this Reformation was being justified through faith alone rather than works.

The idea was that actions that the Catholics were doing to try and earn salvation, like penance, confessions, and pilgrimages, were not what saved or pleased God, but rather faith alone in a personal relationship with him. Martin Luther’s goal was to debate what he saw as a skewed focus, which ultimately led to the Reformation. To reach this goal, Luther even translated the Old and New Testaments into German so that people would have a chance at a more personal faith rather than just relying on the church. This shifted focus from the church to the individual, preventing the church from having sole control over who is saved in Christ. This is what began the focus on personal faith rather the church loyalty, making it no longer about just acts but one’s relationship with Jesus. Overall, Faith alone was the main unique theological point brought up during Luther’s Reformation which brought about significant change to the Christian landscape.
